What is your favorite race? My favorite race has always been the ITU World Cup stop at Ishigaki Island in Japan. It’s a small island as far south as you can go in the chain. It’s like Hawaii without all the tourists and much better sushi. Plus I just love the Japanese culture and how friendly the people are. Always a great trip and I always had a great race there because my pre race meal of sushi was always enhanced from it actually being in Japan.
What do you love most about coaching? After 20 years of being a professional, I have accumulated knowledge that I want to be able to share with athletes who are striving to become better. I love being able to take them to places they didn’t know they could reach and unlocking that which was always in them. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my athletes happy from new accomplishments and discoveries.
What is your favorite post race food? Anything, especially those vices that I would never eat or drink otherwise but I feel like I deserve after the effort I put into the race (like Coke!).
Which quote has inspired you most? “Do or do not. There is no try”- Master Yoda
What do you do in your “free” time? I have three passions in my life right now: triathlon, cooking and Disney. Cooking is my therapy and my opportunity to be an artist. Disney appeals to my inner child and keeps me young at heart.
What is your next big training/racing goal? I am more focused on that next step verses a racing or training goal. I am going to enjoy riding my bike and discovering all that my new home has to offer while I help my athletes achieve their goals.
