My entire career I’ve been a coach/trainer/mentor in a corporate setting. After years of cycling and triathlon, I developed a business plan for a retail endurance sports store at the same time I was training for my first Ironman. While on the bike course during my race I had an “ah-ha” moment where I realized that my motivation wasn’t about selling gear, it was about continuing my coaching/training career by helping athletes to push their limits and enjoy the journey.
What is your favorite race? Any Ironman finisher chute at 11:30pm on race day! Pure energy and emotion!
What do you love most about coaching? I LOVE helping people to grow and achieve their goals. Regardless of the race distance or type, coaching athletes to achieve more and enjoy it every step of the way is an amazing feeling. Seeing an athlete smile when they cross the finish line is as much a reward for me as it is for them.
What is your favorite post-race food? I’m a sucker for iced coffee! I actually crave it after an intense workout.
What is your favorite quote? “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore is not an act but a habit” – Aristotle
What do you do in my free time? What is free time? I’m a father, husband, son, friend and coach who has an Ironman wife and 2 kids who play soccer, football, basketball, swim and race triathlon. In those rare quiet moments I LOVE to dig my toes into the sand and listen to Bob Marley.
What is your next big training/racing goal? This changes day by day! I’ve raced sprint to full Ironman and everything between. . . I guess we’ll need to wait and see!
